Verna M. Smith

VERNA M. SMITH, age 93, of Marion, passed away at 9:10am on Friday, May 15, 2009 at Parkway Manor in Marion. Verna was born on May 2, 1916 in Stranton, IL, the daughter of Arthur and Ida (McCuan) McRoy. She married Cecil Smith in Marion on September 14, 1944. They shared thirty-five years of marriage, until his death on January 21, 1980. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She attended the Church of God in Scottsboro. Verna loved gardening and read her Bible every day when she was able. Survivors include her Daughter- Ida Priest of Marion, IL Grandaughter- Dianne Pansing and Bryan of Jackson, AL Grandson- Lonnie Priest Jr. and Marianne of Lakewood, WA Grandson- Lance Priest of Dallas, TX Two Great Grandchildren- Bradley and Branson Pansing of Jackson, AL Brother-in-law Elmer Smith, Jr. and wife Shirley of North Carolina Two Sister-In-Laws- Glenda and Evelyn Smith of Marion, IL Several nieces and nephews Verna was preceded in death by her parents, first husband John Crain, husband Cecil Smith, son-in-law- Lonnie Priest, two sisters and four brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. David Blue officiating. Burial will follow at Lake Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10-11am on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the funeral home. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
