Ewing- Vernon E. Cole, 78, of San Diego, CA, formerly of Ewing, IL, went home to be with the Lord at 11:06 PM, on Friday, August 14, 2009 at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in San Diego, CA.
Vernon was born on April 23, 1931 in Ewing, IL the son of Oscar & Flora (Morgan) Cole. On January 21, 1952, he was united in marriage to Mary L. (Hill) Breault. Together they shared twenty years together. She survives. On July 9, 1971, he married Lynda Cooper in San Diego, CA. Together they have shared thirty-eight years together. She survives of San Diego.
Mr. Cole attended Fathers House Church of San Diego, CA. He was a minister for several years. He retired after having worked thirty five years as an electrician at Convair-General Dynamics in the Ordill Area. Vernon worked on tomahawk missiles, mercury, Gemini, and Apollo projects. He liked the St Louis Cardinals, fishing, and simply being with his family. Having a green thumb, he put gardens out every year. In his spare time, he enjoyed crocheting.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son- David Eugene Cole & Grandson- Caleb Matthew Cole.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, August 24, 2009 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Burial will follow in Williams Chapel Cemetery in Ewing, IL. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until time of service, Monday at the funeral home.
