Herrin- Vince Smorczeski, 88, of Herrin, formerly of Buckner, passed away at 10:40 PM, Friday, November 7, 2014 at HerrinHospital.
Vince was born on November 10, 1925 at his family’s home in Royalton to Vince and Elenora (Menchowski) Smorczeski. He married his wife of fifty five years, Betty L. Cook on September 5, 1959 at the Shoe Factory in Benton.
Vince was retired, having worked on the automatic transmission line at Norge in Herrin for 27 years. He then worked as a laborer for Old Ben #26 for 7 years.
He was a member of SecondBaptistChurch in Herrin and occasionally served as an usher. He was also an active member of the Herrin Senior Citizens, the “Blue Herron Marina” and the UMWA. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening vegetables, listening to gospel music and fishing in Herrin and Crab Orchard lakes. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter- Barbara Bowlin, brother- Ziggie Smorczeski, half brother- Stanley Bolenski.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 10, 2014 at the SecondBaptistChurch in Herrin. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Burial will follow at ZeiglerCemetery in Zeigler. Visitation will be from 5:00- 8:00 PM, Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
