Violet M. Finney

Herrin- Violet M. Finney, age 89, of Herrin, passed away at 8:05am on Friday, February 23, 2007 at Fountains Nursing Home in Marion. Violet was born on April 1, 1917 in DeSoto, IL, the daughter of Virgil and Effie (Priddy) Murray. She married John Clyde Finney in Herrin on February 6, 1937. He preceded her in death on October 23, 2000. Mrs. Finney worked in the water department at the Energy Village Hall for ten years. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Herrin and a former member of the First Baptist Church in Energy. She spent fifty seven years as a Sunday School teacher between both churches. Survivors include: three daughters- Phyllis Houston of Marion, IL Karen Hester of Carterville, IL Sharon & Michael M. Ward of Mesa, AZ four grandchildren- Barry & Vicki Bishop of Herrin, IL Kathy Ward of Mesa, AZ Stephen Ward of Mesa, AZ Sarah and Bill Mitchem of Johnston City, IL one great grandson- Dakota Mitchem of Johnston City, IL Violet was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, February 26, 2007 at Johnson- Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Brad Harlow officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 12-2pm on Monday, February 26, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
