Herrin- Virgie M. Smith, 86, of Herrin, passed away at 9:20 AM, Saturday, February 2, 2013 at her home.
Virgie was born on October 31, 1926 in Bumpus Mills, TN to John and Sarah (Wallace) Cheatham. She married Harold I. Smith on September 11, 1946 in Herrin. He preceded her in death on November 16, 1990.
She was a homemaker and a member of Energy First Baptist Church in Energy. She was a kind and generous woman who enjoyed cooking for her beloved friends and family. She had a keen sense of humor and always had a kind or encouraging word for those around her. She enjoyed gardening tomatoes and baking her infamous apple pies. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers- Edison, Gilbert and Elbert Cheatham and sisters- Macil Robertson, Madeline Ezell, Pauline Bean, Elizabeth Murray and Ruby Bandy.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Burial will follow at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service, Wednesday at the funeral home.
