Virgil L. Shirley

Herrin- VIRGIL LeROY SHIRLEY, 82, of Herrin passed away at 12:43pm on April 26, 2005 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St Louis. Virgil was born in Herrin on April 23, 1923 to Ervy Valentine and Nellie (Grissom) Shirley. He married Margaret Ilean Poff on January 18, 1946 in Herrin. She survives. Mr. Shirley attended the West Monroe Apostolic Church and was a WWII army veteran. He was retired from his farming occupation. Survivors include- Wife- Margaret Shirley- Herrin, IL Son and daughter-in-law- Donald and Susan Shirley- Johnston City, IL Daughter and son-in-law- Janet and Sam Pedigo- Johnston City, IL 3 grandchildren- Michael and Ashley Shirley- Dyersburg, TN Tammy and Jeffrey Emery-DuQuoin, IL Melinda Shirley-Marion, IL 2 great grandchildren- Anthony Emery-DuQuoin, IL Hayden Shirley-Dyersburg, TN 2 sisters- Dorothy and Kenny VanDyke- Hopedale, IL Betty Speare- Hopedale, IL 1 brother- Harold and Daisy Shirley- Herrin, IL Several nieces and nephews Preceded in death by- Parents 1 daughter- Brenda Shirley 1 sister- Shelby Rhine 2 brothers- Ernest and Edward Shirley Private family services will be held at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
