Herrin- Virginia Garavalia, 82, of Herrin, passed away at 4:41 PM, Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. Virginia was born on December 27, 1929 in Marion to Eugene and Flossie (Connelly) Adams. She married Charles Sparky Garavalia on June 13, 1953 in Marion. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1987. Virginia worked for more than twenty years as a bank teller at the Bank of Herrin prior to her retirement in 2001. Before that she worked many years at Moroni Drug, also in Herrin. She was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin and was a former member of the Daughters of Mary. She enjoyed travelling with friends and family and spending quality time with her grandchildren. Virginia had a humble disposition and a giving heart, she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include- Son- Michael Garavalia and wife Kathleen of Ballwin, MO Son- Mark Garavalia of Battle Creek, MI Four Grandchildren; Marin Garavalia Jeff, Scott and Jon Garavalia Sisters: Leah Burgess of Johnston City Flodene Henson of Carterville Dianna Almaroad of Grapevine, TX Brother- Danny Adams of Marion Eleven Nieces and nephews Several great nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister- Treciah Weiss and brother- Harris Adams. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 5-9:00 PM, Friday, July 6, 2012 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church/Education Foundation and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St/ Herrin, IL 62948.
