Virginia Ruth Hudgens, 84, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 8:58 p.m. at Hospice of Dayton, Ohio. She was born on February 27, 1924 the daughter of Roy & Mable (Stanley) Mitchell in West Frankfort. She married Claude Ray Hudgens and together they shared 61 years of marriage until his death. Virginia and Claude loved hiking and danced in a number of square-dancing, round-dancing and ballroom groups until they were into their 80s. She was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church for 55 years. Although Virginia held varied jobs during her life, from aircraft assembly during WWII to retail sales, her proudest accomplishments were as a loyal and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Virginia was an avid reader of mysteries and biographies. She also loved to solve jigsaw puzzles, to knit and crochet, and to socialize while playing bridge with friends. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Hudgens, daughter, Claudia Watson, daughter-in-law, Doris Schraft, son-in-law, Michael Watson, grandson, Sean Hudgens, granddaughter, Christiana (Watson) Branham, and grandson Graham Watson. Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, Claude and older son, Bruce Alan Hudgens. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Fountain United Methodist Church in Marion with Rev. Ken Burgard officiating. Burial will follow in Fountain Cemetery.
