Marion- Virginia L. “Jenny” Dunn, 88, of Marion, passed away at her daughter’s home in West Frankfort at 4:05 AM, Tuesday, April 2, 2013.
Jenny was born on December 27, 1924 in Marion to Troy E. and Lena (Owens) Sims. She married Charles “Jack” Dunn in 1961 in Shawneetown. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1988.
Jenny attended Marion Public Schools and was a graduate of Brown’s Business College. She was a successful business woman and owned Jenny’s Uniforms on Main Street in Marion since 1975. Before that she worked at the Uptowner with Wayland on the square in Marion.
She was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Marion. She was devoted to her work and to her family. She enjoyed going to Walt’s Pizza in Marion on Sunday evenings and watching Tiger play golf on Sunday afternoons. She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed making beans and cornbread on Monday nights. She loved travelling with her family to Florida and fishing with her family on Horseshoe and Reelfoot Lakes.
Survivors include-Daughter- Vicki Griffin and husband Dr. Donald Griffin of West Frankfort; Son- Dr. Kevin Holmes and wife Shirley of Marion; Three grandchildren: Nathan Hosselton of Chicago; Samantha Jennings and husband Andrew of Marion; Jamie Holmes of Marion; Brother- Wayland Sims and partner Dr. Dan Brown of Marion; Great nephew- Garland Welch and wife Eileen of Marion; Daughter on law- Susie Holmes of Marion; Longtime and trusted employee- Earline Hendrickson of Marion; Her spoiled cat- “Chris”.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son- Michael Wayne Holmes, sister- Dorothy Fehd and niece- Carolyn Welch.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Pastor Tim Ozment will officiate and Bernard Paul will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM, Friday, April 5, 2013, at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion.
