Herrin- Vivien Newlon, 89, of Herrin, died at 8:35 AM, Sunday, December 29, 2002 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. Vivien was born on July 31, 1913 in Herrin to Thomas Fantier & Elizabeth (Hopper) Bailey. She married Milfred Albert Newlon on Christmas Eve 1935 in Herrin. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1976. Mrs. Newlon was a homemaker and her family formerly owned and operated Newlon's Grocery in the Chittyville area during the 1930's, 40's and 50's. She was a member of the Herrin Free Methodist Church and was the "Penny A Day" monitor. SURVIVORS: Son & dtr in law- William & Peggy Newlon- Stones Crossing, IN Son- David Thomas Newlon- Herrin Grandchild- David William & wife Toni Newlon- Indianapolis, IN Grandchild- Jennifer Newlon- Indianapolis, IN Great Grandchildren- Austin & Amanda Newlon- Indianapolis, IN Sister in law- Oredia Bailey- Herrin Aunt- Johnnie Hennig- Herrin Nephews & nieces: Thomas Bailey- Herrin Gary Wade- Herrin Larry Wade- Decatur, IL Karen Wade- California John Wade- Herrin Several Great Nieces & Nephews Many Cousins She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four brothers and sisters; Enis Bailey, Kenneth Bailey, Irene Wade & Louise Batts. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p. m. on Thursday, January 2, 2003 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until 2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
