Walter Boester, age 84, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at 9:55 A.M. at his home. Funeral services were at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 26th at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. David Willard officiating. Burial followed in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation was from 5-9 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hearts Helping Hearts, Zion United Church of Christ Building Fund in Marion, or the American Lung Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mr. Boester was born June 10, 1916 to August Frederick and Sophia Anna (Dahmer) Boester in Williamson County, Illinois. Both parents preceded him in death. He married Christine Swafford on May 23, 1941, in Jackson, Missouri. Survivors include his wife, Christine, of Marion. 1 Son and his wife: Alan & Jo Boester of Marion 3 Daughters and their husbands, all of Marion: Joyce & Mackie Richey Sharon & Raymond Stephens Nancy & Dale Hastings 13 Grandchildren: April Richey of Marion Tanya Christy (& husband Erick) of Christopher Lori Trovilion (& husband Elmer) of Goreville Dawn Bailey (& husband Tim) of Stonefort Shandra Cochrum (& husband Neil) of Talladega, AL Treina Basham (& husband Carrol) of Marion Starla Kuberski (& husband Rich) of Marion Skyla Stotlar (& husband Brian) of Marion Tiffany Tillery (& husband Todd) of Kennesaw, GA Jason Boester of Atlanta, GA Rob ONeal (& wife Heather) of Ridgeway, IL Debbie Blankenship (& husband Bill) of Marion Carla Banks (& husband Mark) of Harrisburg, IL 24 Great-grandchildren 2 Sisters: Lorene (& husband Earl) Mayer of Marion Pauline (& husband Edgar) Pulley of Marion 1 Brother: Gilbert (& wife Betty) Boester of Marion 1 Sister-in-law: Carmen Boester of Marion Several Nieces & Nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Kevin Stephens, and two brothers, Irvin & August Boester. Mr. Boester was retired after working as a coal miner, a gunsmith, and at Bob Stotlar Building Company. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Marion. He was also a member of the NRA (National Rifle Association).
