Herrin- Walter King, 92, of Herrin formerly of Zeigler, passed away at 8:10 AM, Sunday, April 19, 2009 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin.
Walter was born on June 19, 1916 in Lookout, KY to Burl F. & Nora (Hill) King. HE married Pearl Ross on August 21, 1937 in Whitley City, KY. He and Pearl shared seventy one wonderful years together.
Walter retired from Old Ben #26 after more than thirty years in the coal mines.
Mr. King enjoyed talking and drinking coffee with friends, discussing western movies or telling tales of the fish that got away. He collected and traded guns and when he was able liked to fish and hunt. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the Williamson County Sheriffs Association.

Son & daughter in law- Kenneth & Carol King of Zeigler
Daughter- Mildred King of Herrin

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers- Kernie, Charlie B. & William Marvin King and four sisters- Syble Tregoning, Madeline Chitwood, Alyene Brown & Mildred I. King.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 11 A.M. at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will follow in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
