Herrin-Walter Red Gray 81, of Herrin, passed away at 9:35 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at his home. Mr. Gray was a retired Machineist for Caterpiller in Joilet for thiry years. He was a member of the First Pentacostal Church in Herrin and a WW II army veteran. He was born on May 14, 1923, in Livingston, TN., to E.B. and Era (Gore) Gray Sr. Walter married Evelyn Meracle on July 18, 1953, in Herrin. She preceded him on Oct. 31, 1997. Survivors are: Step-Dtr. & son-in-law-Marilyn & Val Roland-Pittsburg, IL. Step-Dtr.-Janet Brown-Herrin, IL. Step-Son & Dtr.-in-law-Bill & Mary Forbes-Blairsville, IL. Step-Son & Dtr.-in-law-Charles & Billie Forbes-Herrin, IL. Step-Granchildren-Twenty One Step-Great Grandchildren-Thirty Two One Bro. & Sis-in-law-E.B. & Lura Gray Jr.-Livingston, TN. Sis. & Bro.-in-law-Maizell & Arnold Wirtz-MI. Sis.-Juanita Easterley-Linvingston, TN. Several Neices & Nephews He was preceded in death by his wife and parents, two grandson Buddy Groves & Scott Forbes and one great granddaughter Ashleigh Sprague. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004 in Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin, IL.Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VNA TIP Hospice and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home.
