Marion Walter William Hunter, 82, of Marion, passed away at 10:20 P.M. on April 16, 2002 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion. Funeral services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 20, 2002. Military burial rites will be conducted by VFW Post 1301 of Marion. Visiting hours will be held at Mitchell-Hughes funeral home from 12:00 noon Saturday till time of the service. Walter was born on November 13, 1919 to Earnest and Christine (Kern) Hunter in Chaffee, MO. They preceded him in death. He married Haskell (Reagan) in Marion on April 27, 1952. She survives in Marion and would have celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary their year. Walter is a retired Carpenter and Farmer. Walter is of Catholic Faith, a WW II veteran in the Army Air Corps. In the European Theater. He was also a life member and past commander of VFW Post 1301, American Legion #147, and the Marion Eagles. Survivors include a step-son and wife Don and JoAnn Pearce of Marion ? Eleven grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren, Brother Charles Hunter of Collinsville, Sister Dorothy Moore of Marion and Joan Giffillan of St. Louis. Two stepdaughters ? Charlotte Hilliard and Janet Coats, his Sister Mary Jane Thompson, precede him. This obituary and guest register may be viewed at www.hughesfuneralhomes.com
