Welcher S. Morgenthaler, 76, of Jackson, TN and formerly of Johnston City, IL passed away on Friday, November 8, 2002 at 2:00 A.M. at Chester County Healthcare in Jackson, TN. Welcher was born and reared in Pinckneyville, the son of late Carrol and Lillie Mae Queen Morgenthaler. He attended schools in Pinckneyville. He married Mary Evelyn Pritchette on April 22, 1944 in DuQuoin, IL, she survives. He entered the U.S. Army shortly after his marriage to Mary and served in Germany, and served in the Battle of the Bulge as a tank gunner. He returned in 1946 and they made their home in DuQuoin, IL where they farmed and did dairy work. They later lived at Monmouth, IL where they owned and operated Ted?s Furniture and Upholstery until his health failed in 1983, which is when they retired. They moved to Johnston City until 1997, when they moved to Jackson to make their home with their daughter, Marilyn. They moved to the Chester County Healthcare in 2002. Survivors include: Wife Mary Evelyn (Pritchette) Morgenthaler; Son Homer Nelson Morgenthaler of Johnston City, IL; Son Carrol Morgenthaler of Decatur, AL; Daughter Marilyn Johnston of Jackson, TN; Brother Nelson Morgenthaler of DuQuoin, IL and Sister Mabel Valentine of Plant City, FL. His parents, Sister Lucille Lowes, and Brother Jack Morgenthaler preceded him. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2002 at 2:00 P.M. at the Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with the Rev. Edward Null officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Goreville with Military Rites performed by VFW Post #1301 of Marion. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2002 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Mitchell-Hughes.
