Energy- Weldon Garten, 87, of Energy, passed away at 5:10 PM, Saturday, April 30, 2005 at his home with his family.
Weldon was born on August 8, 1917 in Electra, TX to Edward & Margaret (Brown) Garten. He married Vonnie Jennings in September of 1936 in Cartersville, GA. She preceded him in death on October 18, 1974. He later married Charlene Gillooly on December 1, 1978 in Metropolis. She preceded him in death on December 11, 1996.
Mr. Garten was a WWII Coast Guard veteran. After his discharge he worked as a contractor for pipeline welding. He was a member of the Plumbers, Steamfitters & Refrigeration Fitters Local # 137 out of Springfield.
Weldon was a life member of the Herrin Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, spouses, brothers; Conley Clark & Guy Brown, and one sister; Edna Bowen.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. As per his wishes his body will be cremated and no services will be held.
