Dongola- Wendell E. Hastings, Sr., 71, of Dongola, formerly of Marion, passed away at 4:35 AM, Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, KY. Wendell was born on September 14, 1935 in Paulton to Irvan E. & Susie (Klope) Hastings. He married Barbara Peters on July 5, 1962 in Marion. She survives of Dongola. He retired from Jordans Construction. Survivors include- Wife- Barbara Hastings of Dongola Son- Wendell Hastings, Jr. of Dongola Grandchild- Michelle Marquet & husband Jarod of Lone Oak, KY Grandchild- Melanie Hastings of Dongola Grandchild- Nathan Hastings of Dongola Great Grandchild- Aiden Marquet of Lone Oak, KY Great Grandchild- Isabella Marquet of Lone Oak, KY Great Grandchild- Skylar Marquet of Lone Oak, KY Sister & brother in law- Loretta & Roger Coble of St. Charles, IL Sister & brother in law- Norma & Audrey Horn of Virginia Sister- Joyce Bolton of Virginia Brother in law- Wayne Peters of Anna Brother in law- Dallas Peters & wife Barbara of Elburn, IL Brother in law- Charles Peters of Dongola Sister in law- Janet Guth & husband Galen of St. Charles Sister in law- Linda Martinez & husband Sergio of St. Charles Several nieces & nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter- Sherry Lynn Hastings, and one brother- Thomas Hastings. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral home in Marion. Rev. Shorty Alsip will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Davis Prairie Cemetery. An hour of gathering will be held from 12 Noon until time of service, Wednesday at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion.
