Marion- Wesley Odell Bud Helm, 89, of Marion, passed away at 9:50 PM, Friday, December 22, 2006 at Parkway Manor in Marion.
He was born on July 1, 1917 in Johnson County, IL to Roscoe Everett & Gertrude (Cagle) Helm. He married Mary Loretta Watson on May 5, 1940 in Des Lodge, MO. He preceded her in death May 14, 2003.
Bud was a WWII Army Veteran. He entered the Army on July 26, 1943. As Tech Sergeant, he served as squad leader for A & P Platoon, 359th Reg., 2nd battalion of the 90th Infantry division of the 3rd Army under General George Patton. He fought in the European theatre and served in England, France, Luxemburg, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Scotland and Germany. He was retired coal miner. He retired from Orient #6 and worked at Olin Matheson for sixteen years.
He was an active member of Third Baptist Church in Marion for over fifty years. He served as deacon and superintendent.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister- Freda Ruth Farmer and brother- Hartley Everette Helm.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Rev. Scott Kallem will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM, Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.
