Wilbert J. Soldner, 89, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 7:40 P.M. at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Wilbert was born February 15, 1922 in Marion the youngest son of George Henry and Anna Sophia (Wickert) Soldner. He married Helen Broeking on September 16, 1950 and later this month they would have celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Wilbert graduated from Marion High School in 1940, from 1942 - 1946 he proudly answered the call to serve his country during WWII in the Air Force. Following his return from the service he attended the University of Missouri, Columbia Printers School. He worked his entire working years at the Marion Daily Republican. He started as a paper boy, and worked as a pressman, in the job shop and after graduating he was a linotype operator. Following retirement he worked for the VFW at the VA Marion Hospital. He was a life member of the Marion VFW Post #1301, Mt. Vernon American Legion Post #141, member of Military Order of Cooties #48 and member of the International Typographical Union and the Zion United Church of Christ.

Matthew Soldner of Maryville, Illinois
Andrew and Colin Soldner of Marion
Christine and Taylor Anne Soldner of Oakton, Virginia
Preceded by his Parents, Brothers Edwin Soldner and Melvin Soldner
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 1 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. John Holst officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military rites presented by Marions VFW Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 and National Guard Flag Detail Unit. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home.
