Pittsburg- William M. Bun Handkins, 93, of Pittsburg, passed away at 12:23 PM, Saturday, June 30, 2007 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
Bun was born on July 27, 1913 in Williamson County to Orpha R. & Myrtie (Mofield) Handkins. He married Rose Parks on July 10, 1937 in Perryville, MO. They shared 64 years of marriage until her death on November 14, 2001.
Bun worked as a coal miner for most of his adult life. He worked underground from the days of mules through the introduction of machinery. He eventually retired from AMEX Delta surface mine in Crab Orchard in 1978. He also worked as a farmer; raising cattle and hay on his small farm for many years.
Mr. Handkins was a member of Center Baptist Church in Crab Orchard and UMWA local #7031.

Daughter & son in law- Audrey & Alan Biby of Mulkeytown
Nephew- Gerald Handkins of Pittsburg
Niece- Velma Handkins of Pittsburg
Niece- Juanita Smith and husband LoyRay of Marion
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son- Roger David Handkins, brothers; Virgil Handkins of Marion and Glenn Handkins of Pittsburg and sister- Lillian Ozment of Marion.
Bun will be sorely missed by his family, friends and neighbors.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Rev. Richard Hart will officiate. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until time of service Tuesday at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.
