Herrin William C. Oliver, 85, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2008 at his home in Herrin. William was born January 12, 1923 in Marion the son of Berttie (Oliver) Murphy. He married Grace B. Bradley on September 27, 1942 in St. Charles, Missouri and together they have been blessed with over 65 years of marriage. William was a retired coal miner and WWII Army Veteran. He was a member of West Monroe Apostolic Church and UMWA Local 1545 District #12. Survivors include his: Wife Grace B. Oliver of Herrin Daughter Mary Simmons of Atlanta, Georgia Son Ed Oliver of Herrin Son Joe Oliver of Herrin Eight Grandchildren; Teresa Minnick and husband Mike of Atlanta, Georgia David Bradley of Harrisburg Lisa Lerch and husband Jon of West Frankfort Ray McKane and wife Heather of Herrin Brent Oliver and wife Jennifer of Bush Jennifer Lence of Herrin Anthony Lee Costellia of Columbia, South Carolina Laura Oliver of Herrin Eleven Great Grandchildren Two Great Great Grandchildren Four Sisters; Lucille Mash and husband Ray of Ironton, Missouri Violet Lemay of Marion Wilma Cobb and husband Bob of McLeansboro Dorothy Ragsdale and husband Buddy of Rydal, Georgia Several nieces and nephews Preceded by Mother, Two Daughters Gracie Ann Oliver, Regina Kay Castellia, Great Granddaughter Carla Prince, Brother Lauren Murphy, Jr., Two Sisters Brenda K. Murphy and Thelma Tucker. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Terry Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in Coal Bank Springs Cemetery. Military rites will be presented by Marions VFW Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 and National Guard Flag Detail Unit. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. For those who prefer memorials may be made to West Monroe Apostolic Church or Coal Bank Springs Cemetery Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
