Herrin- William David Griffith, 60, of Herrin, passed away at 3:34 PM, Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
David was born on October 17, 1951 in Possum Trot, KY to William D. & Geraldine (Brasher) Griffith. He married Mary E. Pearson on March 3, 1973 in Hurst. She survives of Herrin.
David was a Veteran of the US Air Force and served during the Vietnam Conflict. He was an X-Ray Technician and Cat Scan Specialist at Herrin Hospital and SIH for the last twenty-one years. He worked more than forty years in medical imaging and was a member of the American Society of Radiologic Technicians.
He was a catholic and an active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. He served as Eucharistic minister and Lector within the church and was a member of the Herrin Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting deer and small game and fishing for whatever was biting at Herrin #2 Lake. His main hobby was Pre-1840s re-enactment and encampments. He enacted as a pre-1840s French trader and certified blacksmith and was a member of the Stinking Springs Sharpshooters.

Mother- Geraldine Griffith of Columbus, OH
Two grandchildren- Riley and Brody Baker of Herrin
Brother- Rev. Terry Griffith and wife Mona of Herrin
Brother- John Griffith and wife Charlene of Columbus, OH
Several nephews and one niece
He was preceded in death by his father.
The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM, Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
