Herrin- William Howard Bill Damico, 83, of Herrin, passed away at 6:40 PM, Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Herrin Hospital.
Bill was born on June 24, 1927 in Detroit, MI to Howard & Eva (Kennedy) Damico. He married Mary Louise Visconti on September 17, 1960 in Herrin.
He was a WWII and Korean War veteran while enlisted in the United States Navy. Once honorably discharges, he worked several years as head production engineer at Allen Industries in Herrin, and retired from SIU Carbondale. He was a member of the Herrin American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Herrin Knights of Columbus.
He was an active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Javier Muniz and staff of Herrin Hospital.

Son- Richard Rick Damico of Herrin
Grandchildren- Cameron and Brooklyn Damico of Herrin
Sister- Marilyn Damico of Herrin
Niece- Kathy Cerutti of Herrin
Nephew- Michael Cerutti and wife Michelle of Herrin
Numerous nieces and nephews in the Detroit area
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother- Richard Damico, sisters- Norma Paul, Mac Murrell, Pat Collins and brother in law and sister in law- Chuck and Rose Cerutti.
The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. Fr. Richard Mohr will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Military rites will be performed at graveside by the Herrin American Legion and VFW with assistance from the Illinois National Guard. Visitation will be from 6-9:00 PM, Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. The prayer service will be recited at 6:00 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations are suggested to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church/ Education Fund, Hospice of Southern Illinois or to the Doughboy Bronze Plaque Fund and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St/ Herrin, IL 62948. .
