Marion William J. Bill Furlow, 87, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2006 at 10:45 P.M. at the VA Medical Center in Marion. Bill was born June 16, 1918 in Williamson County to Sylvanus & Bessie (Shelton) Furlow. He married Helen Maxine Connett on August 30, 1937 in Paducah, Kentucky and together they shared over 66 years of marriage until her death on September 8, 2003. Bill was a miner for the Sahara Coal Company. He proudly served his country during WWII in the Army; he received a Purple Heart while serving in the European Theater. William was a lifetime member of Marions VFW Post #1301 and DAV. Survivors include: Three Daughters; Delores Groves of West Frankfort Janet Whitehead of Marion Anita Evrard and husband Link of Pittsburg Five Grandchildren Melissa Hall of Benton Jackie Groves and wife Tracy Groves of Herrin Chad Whitehead and wife Sara of Marion Katie Denton and husband Brad of Marion Christopher Evrard of Pittsburg Four Great Grandchildren Keith Robinson of West Frankfort Lucas Hall of Benton John Hall of Benton Kylee Denton of Marion Three Brothers; Lester Furlow and wife Wardena of Crab Orchard Virgil Furlow and wife Lorene of Harrisburg Edward Furlow and wife Dorothy of Sesser Three Sisters; Irene Hicks of Marion Wilma Lola of Carrier Mills Genevieve Spiller and husband Fred of Marion Preceded by: Parents, Wife Helen, Son-in-law Lavern Groves, Grandson-in-law Bill Hall, Brother Kerney Furlow, Sister Melba Gray Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 23, 2006 at 1:30 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Short Alsip officiating. Burial will follow in Odd fellows Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by Marions VFW Post #1301 and American Legion Post #147. Visitation will Thursday from 11:30 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home.
