Colp- William L. Bill Mason, age 64, of Colp, died at 3:35pm on Thursday, November 29, 2007 at his home in Colp. William was born in Herrin on July 30, 1943, the son of William and Marie (Yancy) Mason. He served his country while enlisted in the United States Army Reserve. After his discharge he came home and worked as a coal miner at Freeman #6 in Waltonville. Once retired Bill enjoyed riding horses and camping with Ruth Ann at TTT Campground and Cedar Lake. They enjoyed spending afternoons on his motorcycle and traveling throughout the area. Bill was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, the Herrin Elks and the Herrin American Legion. Survivors include: His companion- Ruth Ann Wagner of Colp, IL One son- Billy S. Mason and girlfriend Dina Frazier of Herrin, IL Mother- Marie Mason of Herrin Step Children- Krystal Dukes of Johnston City, IL Jason and Becky Wagner of Johnston City, IL Charity and Jason Meneese of Goreville, IL Grandchildren- Kali Hopper Katrina Hopper Summer Halaska Justin Wagner Natalie Ann Meneese Brother- Roger Mason of Herrin, IL Nieces and Nephews- David, Krista, and Alicia Mason- All of Herrin, IL He was preceded in death by his father and granddaughter- Angela Kay Meneese. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, December 3, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Military rites will be performed following the service at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Visitation will be held from 11-1pm on Monday, December 3, 2007 at the funeral home. As per Williams wishes, his body will be cremated and private inurnment will take place at a later date at Herrin City Cemetery.
