William Ray Higdon

Herrin- William Ray Higdon, 82, of Herrin, formerly of St. Louis, passed away at 9:00 PM, Friday, September 26, 2008 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. William was born on July 28, 1926 in Herrin to Robert Ellis & Neva (Vannoy) Higdon. He worked many years as a confectioner in St. Louis and later retired as a security guard. Mr. Higdon was of Pentecost faith and enjoyed gospel and country music. He walked everywhere he went and enjoyed shopping with friends and family. Survivors include- Sister- LaDonna Kerley of Herrin Nephew- Bill Williams and fiance Marilyn Kennedy of Herrin Niece- Darlene Eason of Tennessee Niece- Kathy Armstrong of Tennessee Several great nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, brother- Wayne Higdon and sister- Mary Frances Wood. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, September 29, 2008 at Herrin City Cemetery. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. A time of gathering will be from 10:00 AM until time of service, Monday at the cemetery. Graveside arrangements were made at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St/ Herrin, IL 62948.
