Herrin- William V. Tate, 89, of Herrin, formerly of Momence Illinois, passed away at 11:30AM on October 7th 2011 at his home. William was born on June 9th 1922 in Ridgeway Tennessee the son of W.A. and Novela (nee Pearson) Tate. He married Sarah Frances Weathers on October 23rd, 1945 in Alcorn CO, Mississippi. She preceded him in death on May 21, 2000. Mr. Tate worked as a mechanic as well as a construction worker. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army and could fix anything with a motor in it. He was an animal lover and an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. He liked all things western and cowboy oriented and enjoyed collecting guns. Mr. Tate is survived by; Daughter- Katie Chrysler and husband Richard of Naples, Florida. Daughter- Sandra Tate of Farmington Hills, Michigan Twin children- Barry Tate of Herrin and Betsy Kerst and husband Fred of Attica, Indiana Son- Vernon Tate and wife Sam of Highland, Indiana Daughter- Tracy Polomoski and husband Craig of Sterling Heights, Michigan. Sister- Irene Moss of Oak Ridge, Tennessee Sister- Polly Vernadore and husband Ted of Oak Ridge, Tennessee Brother- Fred Tate and wife Sue of Oak Ridge, TN Half Brother- W.C. Dyes of Highland, IN He is survived by 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren with one on the way, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Ronald Tate and sister, Katherine Braden. Services for Mr. Tate will be held at Johnson Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin at 6pm on Monday, October 10th. Rev. Ralph Brandon will officiate. There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 4-6pm the day of the service. Military rites will be performed by the Herrin VFW and American Legion Posts, Monday evening at the funeral home. Private committal services will be held at a later date at Egyptian Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the VFW or the Williamson County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home; 201 S 13th Street; Herrin, IL 62948.
