William "Bill" Sylvester Taylor

William S. "Bill" Taylor, age 75, of Marion, passed away at 7:35am on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Carrier Mills Nursing Home with his loving family at his side.

Bill was born December 16, 1947, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He married Jacqueline "Jackie" Nicholson on March 23, 1970, and together they shared over 44 years of marriage until her passing on October 1, 2014.

Bill had worked as a truck driver. He was a proud United States Army Veteran, having served during Vietnam, where he received the Vietnam service medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the National Defense Service medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal. He was a humble man who adored his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include: Daughter - Jennifer Nicholson and husband Jason of Marion; Daughter - Courtney Barden and husband Preston of Marion; Two grandchildren- Jason Tyler (Jackie Buell) Nicholson and Sydney (Michael Dalton Rutkowski) Nicholson; great grandchildren; Paisleigh Taylor, Abel Halliday, Atlas Barden, and Braxton Barden-Simmons; and brother- Eugene (Lois) Taylor of Salem, South Dakota; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife- Jackie Nicholson, one sister and four brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Keith Owens officiating. Burial will follow at White Ash Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Marion VFW and American Legion Posts with assistance from the United States National Guard Ritual Team. A time of visitation will be held from 11am until 1pm on Tuesday at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.
