Herrin- James Wyatt Norton, 94, of Herrin, died at 7:20 AM, Sunday, September 8, 2002 at the Veterans Administration Nursing Center in Marion.
Wyatt was born on October 10, 1907 in Carterville to Lee Roy & Elizabeth (Penland) Norton. He married Wilma Crain on Valentine's Day 1943 in Galveston, TX. She preceded him in death on May 3, 2000.
Mr. Norton was a sales representative for B.E. Schoenthal of Herrin, traveling to mines in Kentucky, Missouri, Indiana, and Illinois prior to his retirement. He was a WWII Coast Guard Veteran, patrolling the coasts of Texas, Washington State, and Vancouver, British Colombia.
Wyatt was a member of Carterville High School's first football team. He was a member of Franklin County Country Club and enjoyed playing golf when he was able. Wyatt was a member of the Herrin Elks and the First Christian Church in Herrin.

Son- Jim Norton- Herrin
Cousin- Sister Marie Cecile Bennett- St. Louis, MO
She was preceded in death by his parents, and wife.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 12, 2002 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Chaplin Robert Benak will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home.
