Yanna K. Carman, Sudsberry, Hilligoss, Crites, born 12/04/1915 in Miami OK and 1/16 Quapaw Indian and named after an Indian Princess, died 09/22/2011at 9:05 pm at Parkway Manor Nursing Home where she lived since June of 2010. Formally Yanna lived in Carterville IL with her loving daughter, Linda and son-in-law Pat Benton for 13 years. Before that time she lived in Jackson, MO, Cape Girardeau, MO, Atlanta, Georgia and Bartlesville, OK. She and her first husband, Raymond started the only bus company in Bartlesville, the Bartlesville Bus Company. Later she and Raymond would raise their family in Bartlesville until late 1972.
She was a graduate of Quapaw High School and graduated from Junior College in Ft. Scott, KS.
Yanna was preceded in death by her Father, Harris Carman, Father, Donald Sudsberry, Mother, Nellie Sudsberry, Husband, Raymond Hilligoss, Husband, Ola Crites, brother, Bill Carman, and grandson, John Paul Hilligoss. She was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister, wife, grandmother of 18 and Great Grandmother of 20. Loved ones surviving are Sons, Raymond Hilligoss of Bartlesville OK, Dr. David Hilligoss and his wife Cindy of Tahlequah, OK and John Hilligoss and his wife Jane of Somerset, PA and daughters, Yanna Sharon Hilligoss, Kilmer and her husband Carl of Halifax, Nova Scotia and Linda Jean Hilligoss, Benton and husband Pat of Carterville, IL. Also surviving are Grandchildren Brian Hilligoss, Raymond Hilligoss, Scott Hilligoss, Dawn Hilligoss, Snyder, Elizabeth Hilligoss, Allen, George Kelley, Hilligoss, Matthew Hilligoss, Yanna Marie Kilmer, Conway, Darby Kilmer, Rudolph, Loring Preston, Stephen Preston, Samantha Smith, Amy Benton, Jeff Benton and Kelley Benton, Dillon Gibson and his wife Katie and Kate Parks. Her surviving Great grandchildren are, Garrett Conway, Morgan Conway, Spencer Conway and Tristan Conway, Andy Hilligoss, Jimmy Hilligoss, Will Hilligoss, Lane Claeson, Waide Claeson, Graciana Smith, Connor Smith, Baylee Benton, Jackson Benton, Robert Preston, Milo Allen, Noah Allen, Izabell Gibson, Jaxon Gibson, Jordan Gibson, Brady Hilligoss.
Yanna was a member of the Eastern Star for 50 years, the D.A.R, White Shrine, Sponsor for Rainbow Girls, girl scout leader, cub scout leader, volunteer at numerous hospitals and VA Medical Center as well as the kidney foundation. Yanna was a square dancer and round dancer and the queen of the Charleston. Her children and grandchildren are talented in music because of her. She played the violin with such beauty and grace. Yanna was always the person who took food to whoever needed it and hand-made baby clothes for the needy and crocheted blankets for hundreds. She was one of the most giving and caring people ever born. Yanna was a member of the First Christian Church of Herrin.
She was full of stories and loved a good joke. Her favorite times were sitting on the fishing bank fishing and eating snacks, reading every kind of book she could get her hands on, dancing, watching her children and grandchildren perform and grow up, and never missed a college football game on TV, (especially OU and OSU). She never lost her sense of humor. She always had advice and gave it freely and was very wise. Her love never paled for her family and friends.
You will be missed but never forgotten, Yanna-Mother. We love you.
Graveside services will be held at 2pm on Monday, September 26, 2011 at Baxter Springs Cemetery in Baxter Springs, Kansas. Her son, Dr. David Hilligoss will officiate. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is assisting the family with arrangements.
