Crab Orchard Mrs. Zella Louise Cain, 89, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 5:20 A.M. at Heartland Regional Medical Center Hospice Unit. Zella spent her last week surrounded by her family and friends as she had done her entire life. Zella was born February 22, 1920 to Virgil and Elva (Dugger) Borum in Creal Springs. She was united in marriage to Harold Ray Cain on March 23, 1940 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. They shared 60 years of marriage until Harold passed on April 29, 2000. Together they shared the joys and struggles of life. Zella was a faithful and devoted servant of her Heavenly Father. Zella exemplified the meaning of a true Christian heart and served her lord in many ways. She aided the mentally afflicted by her work for the mentally disabled by working with both the Bowen Mental Health Center in Harrisburg and as a camp supervisor for the Mari Egie Day Camp for several years. Zella was a devoted and active member of Center Baptist Church in Crab Orchard; she served the church as a nursery worker for numerous years. She was also a member of the Southern Illinois Craft Guild and was an outstanding seamstress and crafter. Zella also devoted a great deal of time and energy to working on family genealogy and produced several catalogs of obituaries to aid those doing genealogy work. Zella is survived by her children: Ronald Cain and wife Sharon of Birch Tree, Missouri Nancy Cain Smiley and husband Jimmy of Marion Richard Cain and wife Lana of Crab Orchard Thomas Cain and wife Becky of Pittsburg Son-in-law Bill Dunbar of Marion And grandchildren David & Rachel Cain, Regina Dunbar & Duane Hendrickson, Brent & Lisa Dunbar, Dawn Cain & Robert Walsner, Missy Cain & Max Berendson, Terry & Kaoru Dunbar, Barry Dunbar, Richard & Missy Dawn Cain, Jason Smiley, Harold Cain, Benjamin & Tobi Cain, Megan Cain & Jeremy Allen, Blake Cain, Melinda Taylor, Travis Sprague and Venus Hahn And great grandchildren Jessica and Molly Cain, Amber, Kendall and Jarrett Hendrickson, Kaitlyn Dunbar, Austin and Jordan Walsner, Garrett Berendson, Heddie and Ian Dunbar, Alexis Dunbar, Mikayla and Madison Cain, Mataya, Austin and Grace Fisher, Devin and Hannah Cain And great great grandchildren Jon JT Newton and Skyler Croteau Her sister Betty Pepper and husband Dick of Lee Summit, Missouri and brother Glenn Borum of Christopher Nieces and nephews Michael Cain, Mike and Debbie Borum, Darlene Hall, Wesley and Sam Donelson, Debbie and Danny Pepper and a host of other great nieces and nephews And the other special people in her life Pam and Joe Nicholls, Lenora Borum, The Kelly Family, The Hale Family, Dorothy Matt and Family, Mark Arnett and her friends in faith at Center Baptist Church. Zella is preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold Cain, Daughters Donna Kay Dunbar and Mardella Cain, Son Valasa Joe Cain, Two Grandsons Christopher and Jared Cain, Sister Carole Donaldson, Brother in law Bill Donaldson. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 11 A.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Same White and Rev. Chris Cutsinger officiating. Burial will follow in Coal Bank Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5 8 P.M. at the funeral home. For those prefer memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois for the special services they provide families in a time of need or to Center Baptist Church as Zella was excited about the expansion of the churchs fellowship hall.
